Born and raised in Recife, Brazil. Marcelo moved to Athens to attend UGA's American Language Program shortly after finishing his bachelor degree in Civil Engineering . The initial idea was to learn English, the "language of business," and return home to pursue a career in civil engineering.  

It didn't take long for Marcelo to fall in love with Athens and its unique vibe. Home to the University of Georgia, Athens has everything to offer from perfect weather to world class restaurants to a lively and vibrant musical scene.

On Valentine’s Day 2020... A freak incident caused a fire at the place he was working, and just like that, Marcelo lost his job. After 11 years of hard work and dedication, his career as Production Manager was over. A few weeks later the entire world shutdown because of a crazy virus. Companies closed their doors and stopped hiring, it was the beginning of the COVID19 Pandemic.

Working for corporations was all Marcelo had done for almost 20 years. Never had he ever lost a job and it hurt to be "let go." It felt like his reputation had for ever been damaged. He had to accept the reality and revamp his career. He reevaluated his goals and priorities, and realized that there is more in life than work hard and pay bills. He needed to start something that would allow him to balance work and family.That's when he decided to become a REALTOR®

Marcelo was encouraged by his long time friend and mentor Rick V. who believed he would thrive in Real Estate because of his personality and professional skills. With the support of his family, Marcelo accepted the challenge, and started studying to become a REALTOR®. After several hours in front of a computer at the test center in Atlanta, Marcelo got  his license. Finally, he had the opportunity to start a new career and run his own business.

Joining Greater Athens Properties has been extremely rewarding. It's great to be part of a team of agents who work hard and do their best to help their clients achieve the dream of home ownership. Being a REALTOR® with Greater Athens Properties has given Marcelo the opportunity to learn even more about the city he and his family call home.

When he is not driving around showing properties, or at the office meeting clients, you can find Marcelo playing guitar somewhere in Athens with The Original Screw Tops. The blues band he founded with a couple of musicians/friends a few years ago.
